We had a brief but vigorous blast up an old loop of the Thames during the Magna Carta Relay on Sunday while waiting waiting waiting for Gloriana to arrive. Steve Woods spotted this, which we agreed is symptomatic of everything that is wrong with Britain today.
PS It is of course entirely possible that the householder has a boat and was out rowing it when I took this picture. In which case the above is a cheap shot unworthy of the high ideals of this blog and I unreservedly apologise.
Having gone out last Sunday, and then returned to my mooring like a whipped cur moaning about cold, and grey, and wetness (not behind the ears) just an hour later, I too would prefer to do my rowing indoors where possible... it's nice and dry, and warm... :o))
ReplyDeleteI was going to make a similar point, but from the opposite view
ReplyDeleteYou don't think any modern man who could afford to do anything as expensive as owning a house on the river would actually consider going outside, near water do you? He might actually get wet (and cold as War-gamer Steve has pointed out).
Having said that, I believe there was a bunch of ageing nutters who actually descended part of the Thames recently over five days, camping as they went.
How prehistoric can you get?

He is probably an Olympic rower who trains at home and drives a boat supplied by your Olympic rowing association and is kept under cover at the local rowing club....My daughter rowed for 10 years to represent her country and would never ever try and row a boat without a sliding seat....Now she is kayaking in multisport events. Go figure
